deviantMEET

London HQ devMeetI dunno how many people I met and/or hugged today, but if you were one of them, it was awesome to meet you
I know I didn't talk much but, firstly, I'm shy and, secondly, I was very tired for pretty much the entire day :B
Really super fun day, and it didn't rain til I was back on my train headed home.
Also, Heidi gave out mini cupcakes with BRIGHT GREEN FROSTING. I was very excited. Thank you ='D :dalove:
That is all.
, :peace: & :B
10 Random things ...... about the London devMeet
So today was the official HQ picnic devmeet down in London. I headed down early this morning and met up with Kyramy before heading to Hyde Park where we found nikkittie, Lushbob, Blobzy, Indae, ConnieCookiee, and Heenie-Starsz amongst the 300+ deviants that had turned up for the day.
The day was awesome and I had a great time meeting everyone. To save a page full of stuff, here's 10 random things about the day:
1. Carrying 200 stressballs across London is not fun, especially when you get lost and the trip takes 3 times as long
2. Even if the forecast says rain, bring sun cream. The weather may turn out awesome and sun burn is not nice
3. Don't try and take a surprise photo of nikkittie. Your ears wont appreciate the scream xD
4. Lushbob looks awesome in a yellow bow tie
5. Muffin muffins are amazing
6. Stressballs and notepads work great to play rounders xD
7. :devtyb
OFFICIAL LONDON DEVMEET 2012was too amazing for words!
im slowly putting my pics up!The day began with me travelling at half 10 in the morning! i was up at 7 and had a very nervy belly!
I was on the train and it was BUCKETING it down and i was like NOO, fortunately the sun came back for the WHOLE day.
i arrived in london at  11:30, the meet was due to start at 12!
i knew it took roughly 29 minutes to get to south kensington and i made it then i just assumed i would walk there and it would be close, it so wasnt, i went the WRONG way. luckily i got a call from Pixel-Spotlight :'D
I just passed a tube station and had to go back on myself..i went the wrong way but i eventually got there. i ran as fast as i could down the subway which i forgot how long it was! once out i was dripping so bad but i was there, finally!
I got to the memorial where we were all meeting and i put my cool face on and my cool guy walk and was ready to face the sea of deviants waiting! I luckily saw Demoncherry and ran to he

Arts-and-Health

Welcome to Arts and HealthWelcome to Arts-and-Health. We are glad you are here!
We are not a typical "art collection" group!
Please take a moment to read a little bit about us and our mission.
Arts & Health is about art. And health. :XD:
We are a new Community Project but not an "official" dA group.
We are grateful for the generous backing of Community Relations.
We are concerned not only with how art is used to show health and illness, but also with how art can be used as a vehicle for storytelling. We want to show what it's like to live with an illness (regardless of how major or minor) as a means to raise awareness not only of the condition, but also of the human spirit and endurance. At our core, human beings are brave and resilient creatures, even in the face of illness, and we want to depict this triumph while raising awareness of illnesses.
We are still ironing out the format of the group.
We plan to put together a bimonthly (perhaps moving to monthly) "e-zi
Arts and Health: A new Community ProjectWhat is Arts & Health?
Arts and Health is a new community project here on dA: Arts-and-Health that was started by Aeirmid with the kind support of moonbeam13, Director of Community Relations, and namenotrequired, Astralseed, and Kaz-D.  It is NOT an official dA group.
Its overall purposes are to encourage and help empower deviants to use art as a creative outlet for telling the story of what it is like to live with a health condition and to raise awareness of illness and resilience through storytelling. The group will share stories of trials and triumphs, hope in the face of the unthinkable, and resilience that comprises each and every human spirit. Art is a transformational medium, and through it we can tell our stories in a language that our words alone can never capture.
What is the format?
We are letting our members decide on the final format of the group. We anticipate that

Acts of Random Kindness!Hello fellow positivity promoters!
The time has come to announce our plans for ARKs. Acts of Random Kindness are those little things you do for others that make them and you feel great! You might leave a nice comment for a new deviant welcoming them to dA, leave a helpful critique for a struggling artist, grant a wish at dAWishingWell, answer a burning question to help a deviant out, donate to a donation pool, give a premium sub to another member, and more! If it is kind, promoting positivity and makes people smile, it is probably an ARK!
This is a great project created by jadecillustrations and expanded by Hardrockangel!"...each month you commit yourself to doing at least one or two (or more) random acts of kindness to spread positivity throughout the community. "Hardrockangel writes, "This can be done by leaving small positive comments on pieces that haven't been commented on yet, by making art for someone, by giving points to donate towards someone's

Make a Difference aims to do exactly that. This series of articles will hopefully make a difference to you as well as the artists featured weekly. Just by giving one minute of your time to write constructive comments, favourites and even watches will make a difference to these artists.

Many of her pieces have no comments at all, so don't hesitate to go and give her some feedback if you have time!

2014: This is the 3rd year of the project. There are many people supporting it, featuring it in their journal and offering art. BUT... There have been NO trees planted for it in the last year (I don't count mine). So, instead of talking about it, how about getting up and actually planting a tree, if you are able to? There is a lot of wonderful art waiting for you as a reward!
Trees are important, valuable and necessary to our very existence. It's not too hard to believe that, without trees we humans would not exist on this beautiful planet. Trees are the largest and longest living organisms on earth. To grow tall the tree has become a miracle of engineering and a complex chemical factory. It is able to take water and

I will be away from dA & the Internet from:
July 2nd - July 13th
There are a couple of reasons, but a big one is due to the fact that my brother and his family are coming, and they've not had a chance to make a trip to visit me in 6 years, which means my youngest niece has never been on a trip to visit her auntie, since she's not quite 6. :aww:
This will be very special for us all, as such times are so rare. :aww:

We had about 140 entries to this challenging, but beautiful contest to show whatever "baby types" of Nature we could find, in the Springtime. :aww:
This was not an easy contest for our judges to take on, considering they were judging on both quality and theme alike, and these entries really had both of these down, very well!! :rose:
I can't thank our judges enough for doing such a great and amazing job!

Commission rates (Status:OPEN)
I am an advanced level designer and coder of deviantART CSS skins. I am open to any kind of coding/designing of skins.
My specialization is in creating sophisticated skins both in terms of functionality and design.
Though I am open for any kind of CSS designing and coding, I am fond of designing/coding modern style skins most of the time.

Journal Skin (Coding)
I can code your journal skin if you have got a design made by yourself or from others.
A journal skin design has to have all the necessary elements that are present in a journal skin. You need to provide me a .PSD file for coding a design with all the elements organized in layers. You need to tell me the font names that you want to use from Google fonts as well.

A bit of Help + All on the tableEdit: I saw MasterMindMan's Letters to Jane Doe project and wrote in.  He ended up giving me a featured article, which is absolutely touching.  I ask anyone who has had a less than perfect life to go read (or anyone who is curious).  But I also ask you guys not to treat me any differently; aside from the anxiety, the depression and the homosexuality (which to me is not an issue lol), everything in there is a good 5-10 years in the past.  Things are far from perfect but they have gotten better, which is the only point I was aiming for.  And that I am willing to listen and help if I can.  But yeah, I'm rambling.  Here's the article http://news.deviantart.com/article/142304/ /edit
My finances for university finally got sorted out, and I am short a ton of money for tuition.  I am job hunting, but so far it isn't getting many results.  So anything extra would be greatly appreciated.&

Disney-Parkhoppers Big Picture Contest - Last CallThe Big Picture Contest
:new: Last call for entries!  Voting will start on Monday the third, so if you want to enter get your entry in now!
Time for a new contest! This time we'll be looking for entries that show the Big Picture at the parks.
What does that mean? Well, it's the view you get when you step back. I've only been to Walt Disney World, and I often wonder about what things look like at the other parks. I've got a good idea of what individual attractions look like, but not how lands are laid out, or the order of parade floats, or how things fit into their surroundings.  The gallery here is full of all the details, but not the big picture.
For examples, see our entries!
The Rules
1. Entries must showcase the Big Picture theme and be related to the parks in some way.  We will reject close-ups or deviations that focus on one attraction/character/store/etc., so be sure your entry meets the contest's requirements.
2. Any type of Medium is welcome.
3. Send the c
:thumb311128095: CSS Contest: Pure and White - EndedWhile people love to work on skins that burst with colors, it is now time to take a step back and try something new.
Not everybody feels comfortable using white, but this time it will be your challenge! Do you feel ready for it?
For this contest you have to create a new design or skin that uses white as the dominant 'color'. You are allowed to use only one additional color, but can use any shade of grey. There should be no black added to your entry either!
Only exception to this would be very small buttons and 1 smaller photo to enhance your entry.
Create something clean, fresh and pure that will enhance your own experience or those of random guests and visitors.
If you are not a coder feel free to create a design, if you know your business go ahead and create a complete skin. Choose on your own if it will be for a journal or a gallery.

Those examples do not match the description above 100%, but they should give you an idea of the contest theme and point in t

First off, could you give us a brief introduction of yourself?
Hello everyone  I am a Deaf person and love photography, I also enjoy collecting many different mediums of artistic creations. Currently, I help to administrate 10 groups on deviantART and truly love helping the deviantART Community to stay positive and productive. :)
How did you discover deviantART?

It's my great pleasure to bring you an interview of a fantastic young photomanipulation artist, Aelathen (formerly VikkiGothAngel), conducted by one of the photomanipulation community's legends, LuneBleu. Please enjoy.
- Jade (Aeirmid)

Please introduce yourself.
Hello!!! :aww: My name is Carina Grimm; before I used to have the nickname of VikkiGothAngel here on deviantArt. I am 18 years old and living in Portugal.
When and why did you join the deviantArt community?
I joined deviantArt 3 years ago because I wanted to share my art with this community as well as meeting artists with the same interests as mine.
Do you have some sort of Art Education?
No, I am completely self taught; I've never had any art courses, and I am quite glad because of that.
What were your first thoughts when you first contacted with Photomanipulatio
Another dAmn Interview! - nikkidoodlesx3Another dAmn Interview! is an interview series I've started up where I interview a deviant who is regular in the dAmn/Chatroom area of
deviantART, and ask them to share their initial and current opinions on thatarea of the site. I'd love some suggestions
from you about how it can be improved if you have any, and any other questions you thinkshould be asked. Thank you!
1. When did you start using dAmn compared to how long you've been on dA?
I've only been on dA going on 2 years now, but I started using dAmn shortly after, maybe 3 months after I joined dA back in I believe September or October of 2010
2. Did you find yourself drawn to any chatrooms in particular when you first started using them?
Most definitely! I was very curious about them, and was thrilled to be able to meet new people that shared similar hobbies as me.
3. Have you made any friendships while using dAmn?
Of course! I think most of the friends that I've made on dAmn I've met going into chats

Hello! Tell me who you are and what your craft is!
Hi! I'm Logan Pearce and I am a bladesmith/swordsmith. I focus on spreading knowledge about the art of forging and making knives.
How did you get into it and how long have you been doing it?
It's a tradition and business that has been passed down through generations in my family. My grandfather started it and I was raised by him. His form of babysitting was handing me a hammer. >.< I first started selling knives when I was 7 years old and that is when I consider my career started. So technically I've been doing it for 20 years. It was only in the last few years that I really started trying to improve my work and make knives that are more popular in the knife community. Because of this, I've had to basically teach myself a whole new way of doing things and many people c

Hello! Tell me who you are and what your craft is!
I am Cheryl and I craft everything! My main ones are crocheting and cosmetics.
How did you get into it and how long have you been doing it?
I started doing cosmetics in 2002 I used to work for a cosmetic company in bournemouth called bomb cosmetics. I restarted again once I qualified as a complementary therapist about 3 years ago. I use my knowledge of aromatherapy to make unique soaps, lipbalms and other toiletries. I started crocheting last October and I learnt through youtube videos.
What difficulties have you found as you progress?
With cosmetics I had to shelf it temporarily due to becoming pregnant. Many of my essential oils are not safe to use! Also I found alot of trial and error in regards to using colours. I tried out many types and found certain ones worked better
PE: Interview with Evelin-NovemberduskEvelin-Novemberdusk has an unique gift for food decoration. Her gallery is full of beautiful, inspirational and delicious works of art, everything she does has a very distinctive style that stands from the rest. She's also a very kind person and allowed us to interview her, she has a lot of wisdom and words of encouragement to share with aspiring artists. Enjoy

Thank you so much for doing this interview, could you tell us a bit about yourself?
To tell the truth, I always become a little confused when it comes to describing who I actually am (my personality). So, my name is Evelin, I study journalism at Moscow State University. Apart from my commitment to culinary, I have a real passion for foreign languages (I’m learning Japanese and Korean), martial arts and I pleasure in the company of different odd-birds. MoonYen is probably one of the most reconisable plushie makers on dA. Her adorable little bunnies can be found hopping around the Artisan Crafts Gallery making the place look adorable.
In this article we will ask her some questions about her art and her new adventure - a little baby moonyen!
My first question is, as always, about your username. What made you choose Moonyen?
My user name, MoonYen, is my Chinese name. I picked it because I'm not very original with titles.

WELP folks, as you can probably tell, we're in need of some fresh blood behind the scenes here at the Unofficial film group :) Mainly just simple things like approving deviation submissions, rejecting ones that violate group rules, answering basic questions some people might need, and overall just helping out  There will be more in-depth info and "training" (it's really not that hard ;)) once we bring you on board ^____^ We're looking at at least 2 or 3 people to bring on board the film train :boogie:
:film: You must be:
1. Enthusiastic
2. Polite
3. Knowledgeable about the group rules here (what we do and do not accept, etc.)
4. Knowledgeable about dA policy (Film is a process by Invitation-Only for a reason)
5. Be comfortable working along with others

THE SYMBOL OF PEACE - PREMIERING AT FILM FESTIVAL!Hello Everyone!
So this week is not over yet, and not by far!
One of my greatest adventures this last year has been working on my short documentary, The Symbol of Peace. It became a huge part of this community a while back when I held a contest to bring some art into the film. The contest brought close to 100 deviants to submit art they created. It brought art from over 10 different countries and many different states. But it didn't stop there. Help came from all over the globe with Ken Kolsbun and Gea Austen being interviewed from California and London!
The journey didn't end though, that was only a beginning.
:star: The Symbol of Peace will be PREMIERING at the Wayne State NewMedia Student Film Festival on June 23, 2012!
Admission is free and open to the public. Although I will be unable to make it as it is over 10 hours away for me, I invite you all to go if you are in the area! It has been an absolutely amazing journey and we are sti

This is my last week before I leave for Ireland/Paris/College so, I wanted to give everyone a chance to ask me any last-minute questions before I duck out. Otherwise from now on, limited access does NOT mean that I will be leaving deviantART. It simply means I will be less active.

Photography Troubleshooting: FiltersThis week we bring you another issue of Photography Troubleshooting to hopefully give you some tips and explanations behind how to make use of some photography accessories. If you have a question, query or any thoughts you wish to see discussed just drop us a comment or note!
"The use of filters, how to pick them and examples of situations where they would be helpful...."
~ moria330
Hi moria330, filters are a good way of diversifying your photographic opportunities without spending a great deal of money (though, granted, many of the better quality filters can get to be relatively expensive).
In film photography, filters were used a lot more extensively then they are today thanks to the nature of the medium.
For example colour filters were used for white balance purposes on colour films that were balanced for different light types, so, you could shoot artificial light balanced film under daylight if you had a filter that corrected for it.

"Eyes like a Shutter, mind like a Lens" - Anon
This week the general thoughts come from Tahog who brought up the topic of Too many cameras around?! It's one that baffles many from amateur to professional in deciding what we, as artists, want to use as our tools. Hopefully one of our community volunteers will cover that in greater depth next week in an article all about choosing your next or even first camera. But for now the confusion comes when you're lining up to take a shot and somebody next to you with a mobile/cell phone is taking the same one and truth be told - it might even turn out better. I broached the subject a while ago of standing at a wedding and being the 'pro' but not the only one with a £500 camera. How do you make yourself unique in a digital world that's fast developing beyond our means and capabilities? Well, you work with

This week I spied an awesome topic in georgewjohnson's journal and knew instantly that it was what I would talk about for edition twenty eight. "Underground train system bosses are set to ban all photos under new proposals that have angered photographers.." You can read the full article for yourself here but I would love to get some discussion going amongst us all as to whether or not the proposed ban would effect you. I'm personally quite pleased that the latest articles report a U-turn in the proposals so it doesn't look

"One of the most often asked questions I've seen regarding photography, above how to do something, is 'what is the best camera?', or 'what camera should I get?'.
Or something along those lines. The critical thing to note is that there is no such thing as the best camera.
Sure there are cameras that are technically better at certain things, for example, some cameras have very high resolutions, other are very good at low light photography, some are very small, and so on, but there's no su

Flash Fiction Month 2012Remember in April when cruelty came in the form of NaPoWriMo and Script Frenzy? Those poor prose writers may have felt lost what to do, and twiddled their thumbs impatiently? Well the wait is over as July brings a writing challenge for the fiction writers in the form of Flash Fiction Month!

Flash Fiction Month (FMM)

What is FFM?

Flash Fiction Month (or FFM) is a month long challenge throughout the month of July. The objective is to write a different piece of flash fiction every single day of the month so by the end of the month you could have 31 pieces of new writing!
A “Flash Fiction” is a piece of prose which has a wordcount between 6 and 1000 words. The piece must be a complete story from start to finish and a standalone piece of work.
This is a great opportunity for those who have perhaps wanted to try a new form of writing, or enhance current skills. It is also worthwhile f

Now a lot of you know Danie as the big chief of the Community Relations team, but I doubt half of you truly know how much of a hard worker Danie is. Not only does she have to look after us lively lot (and by “lot” have you seen how big the CV team is?!), but she works on copious behind the scenes projects on deviantART, making this place just a little bit more devious and better for all us Artists out there in the big dA community. Not only this, but she has to have a life at the same time!
Now we have decided to use Danie’s birthday for three things:
1.       To wish her a very happy birthday (of course)

Love dA Lit: Issue 85Welcome to the eighty-fifth issue of Love dA Lit! Every Sunday this article will aim to promote volunteer opportunities, various resources, prompts, challenges, and workshops, as well as highlighting various contests, and spotlighting a specific group every week. This is by no means a complete list of all the literature going-ons, merely a tool to help you get involved and stay informed.
Note: In an effort to keep things tidy and easier to find I've given the "Literature Links" a sub-section specifically for various group news. This section will contain links and news that really only affects or applies to the members of the specific group as their events and updates are important too, but may not interest non-members. Hopefully, it will highlight that groups are for more than just submitting and maybe help find a group you would have otherwise overlooked in the long list of Lit Links. :giggle:

The Mind's eye
by Henri Cartier Bresson
Original title: L'imaginaire d'après nature

The book, around 100 pages, is divided in two parts. The first one contains a precious series of thoughts on street photography, the famous description of the decisive moment and an analysis of the elements of photography: the decisive moment, the picture story, the subject, composition,  technique, the customers, color, the imaginary from the truth.
In the second half of the book instead there are (much less interesting - street photography wise)

THE YARD COLLECTIVE INFORMS.
Dear members,
My name is Nuno, as :iconPen-At-Work:  introduced me last week, so by now you know I’m the Yard´s proud new Skipper.
If I was flattered just by belonging to The Yard Collective and getting a few submissions accepted sometimes, here and there, as any Yard member should, there’s no need to say how privileged I feel, how honored I am, and how responsible I feel to try to give the proper continuity to Pelle´s Herculean work.
Fortunately it all comes easier when the Team is full of wonderful, talented, and supporting deviants, making my learning curve continue every day.
There´s no need to say that our Yard has grown. Has grown bigger in numbers and in quality. And with that came the time for some changes and to raise the bar, because you deserve. The announced changes will take place immediately and I’ll try to be objective, because I know that while you’re reading this you're also cleaning your lens and sensors, formatti

Last month we asked for your input on drawing a line in the sand in regards to equines which were essentially borderline normal/unique. While not many of you repsponded to that journal, those of you who did agreed with us that we should be focusing on the unique and it would be okay to say no to equines which really don't show real fantasy elements clearly.  What this means is that from this point forward we will no longer accept equines which do not clearly depict fantasy elements.  The idea of this group was always meant to have a strong focus on fantasy equines, especially those which were rather unique and we'd like to keep on track with that original vision as best as we can.  Just to clairify a little bit.  We are not excluding pieces of equines with natural colors as long as they have fantasy elements like wings or horns or some other clear fantasy element to make them stand out from a normal equine.  The probl

The Power of Ideas # 7"It's all about the idea."
“In conceptual art the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work.
When an artist uses a conceptual form of art,
it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair.
The idea becomes a machine that makes the art."

People and Portraits Exposed #1Sometimes it's difficult to know where best to place your People & Portraiture Photography. Along with my fellow general photography CVs I've started to look into what defines the various People & Portraiture Galleries on deviantART - and we've noticed a real inconsistency with what photographers classify as emotive/spontaneous/self portraits and so on. Hopefully this weekly series of articles will help to change that, and challenge those of us who are unsure - to think outside the box when categorizing our work.

The Story Behind the PhotoEvery now and then or at least for now, twice a week, I will be posting up a Journal featuring an exceptional photo and the author's story of how he/she captured that particular moment. Many times, we come across amazing photos on deviantART and wonder what the story was behind that capture... who was involved, where it was taken, how it came to happen, and so forth. I thought it would be interesting to find out of a few of my own favorites, so I contacted a few photographers asking them for a quick summary of their stories. This week's feature is one of iNeedChemicalX's incredible shots.  Check it out.

We're sponsoring Artists' Alley 2012!

We're headed to Comic-Con International:
San Diego to sponsor Artists' Alley!
We Love Artists' Alley

We're back at Comic-Con!
Last year, our sponsorship of Artists' Alley was a huge success. We were able to provide a more comfortable environment for the artists, display their art on huge screens over the Alley, and let people attending the convention draw with deviantART muro on fantastic digital screens. We plan to do this and more in 2012 as we take on the great pleasure of sponsoring Artists' Alley at San Diego Comic

Challenge yourself.Hi, photomanipulators!
It's time for a small photomanipulation rant from me! I haven't done any of these since I became a CV, so let's see how this goes. :XD:
I was wondering when we, as photomanipulation artists, lost our souls?
.....blink....
Wait..... What did she say???
OK, OK, so we have not all lost our souls. But, sometimes it sure seems that way.
I challenge you all to look deep inside of yourselves. How many of us, as a community, are here because we want to meet new people, share art with others, and become better artists, and how many of us are only here for the shot at popularity?
Favorites are great, and not getting them can really hurt. I have deviations with 100 faves, and I have deviations with more than 1,000 faves. I know how it feels to be on the front page as well as the back page. :XD: I know the elation of refreshing your message center and having 20 or more new faves every time you click "refresh." I know the pain o
A brief updateIt's been a while so I thought I should provide a bit of a general update.
Community Operations continue to plough through tickets & reports. We recently smashed through a record number of weekly tickets, and our satisfaction rate within Zendesk (our customer support system) continues to improve on a weekly basis. A quick snapshot of this for you;
In the past week Community Ops has received ratings on 649 tickets. A total of 556 tickets were positive and only 93 were negative. Our rating % over the past week is 85% positive(increased by 4%).
Of course there's always room for improvement and with that in mind I am working with aunjuli and ewm to look at how we can free up resources within each department from repetitive tasks or issues. We've already identified a number of tweaks and have started making plans regarding the intended changes.
I'll be announcing the latest round of Seniors at the end of this week, so if you have any last minute nominations, TODAY would be

France highlights and moreAs was mentioned in our Site Update, our dt, Product, and Product Marketing teams traveled to France for a technology retreat and I had the immense pleasure of participating this year. We spent 2 weeks near Lyon designing and developing new products, improving existing ones, and eating lots and lots of bread. I mean, I consider myself quite the fan of grain products, but I don't think I'm cut out for the French diet.
Nonetheless, it's always interesting to experience a new way of life. I've been to France a couple of times before, but never to the part where we stayed. It was a humbling, albeit sometimes frustrating, experience to be in a village where English is not spoken by the locals. At least in cities like Paris, most people will speak English, but in our little country town, we had to rely on the few French natives in our group for translation. However,
Authentic CitizenshipOnce Again, The Room Fell Away. The prodigious artistic and cultural exchange that we have all committed ourselves to building, to participating in and to sharing with each other every day at deviantART often occurs in RL on the decks of HQ as well. One of the best aspects of being in my position here at deviantART is the privilege to curate salons with artists of every medium and success level imaginable, art appreciators, writers, and educators from all points of light within the deviantART community inviting them to make the trek to HQ for what always manifests as an inspiring, thoughtful, educative, and enlightening dialogue. But sometimes, sometimes, things rise to a whole other level. You suddenly find yourself magically reaching that special deviantART "destination" that is a connection point of art, life, community and communication that has no specific Office # designation. The room falls away… Authentic Citizenship: Part 2As promised here is part two of our interview and conversation with Chris Copeland and Jeff Wamester. The sequel to part one keeps the art love rolling with these two artists revealing even more fantastic tips for new artists on the rise as they reveal their favorite deviants of all time.

Art History: Your help needed!Attention photomanipulators! :blowkiss:
Are you aware that July is Traditional Art History Month here on dA? Well, you are now! :XD: Here's a really great journal article explaining what that's all about:

Basically, we are showcasing deviations, news articles, etc. that feature traditional art in a historical sense.
But, Jade! We're a digital gallery. Why should I care about traditional art history?
Gasp! You should care!! :D Before there was photomanipulation, before there was photography, there was traditional art. It is our roots, our history. The foundation upon which we create.
Think of the masters who came before us, those who blazed the trail for artists of all different genres and media: Monet, da Vinci, Michelangelo, Dali, Rembrandt, Munch, Van Gogh, Picasso, Cezanne . . . so many more. They serve as inspiration for many of us, and you can see their influences today . . . even i

Art History: Discovering Dali
Salvador Dali was born in Spain in 1904 and has been best known and recognised throughout the years for his surrealist, ambiguous works. Dali is responsible for inspiring a plethora of artists to create, combine and step outside of their comfort zones. Many know him for his paintings, but actually like many modern artists today, Dali traversed the fields of the artistic world to pick up talents in Writing, Photography, Sculpture and Film.

Dali was not famous for his methods. That's one of the mistakes that people make when tracing his history or seeking him out for inspiration. Dali's methods were much the same as anybody else's. However his concepts trumped them all and made him what he is remembered for today. He achieved his effects through a mastery of perspective
and a critical eye for color and shape, symmetry and innuendo. It is this realization that opens up the market for future dali-esque artists. There's nothing unusual behind the crea

So, you are asking yourself, just what is an artisan craft when it is at home? Well let us help to show you what it is throughout this week of education!

Through this week we plan to share with you what we know, this will include -

PE: Discussion - What is handmade to you?Browsing the artisan crafts gallery there's one word I see popping often: "handmade" or "100% handmade". In a world full of mass produced objects and faceless corporations, crafters strive to return the magic and beauty of handmade objects to the world; some buyers show a great appreciation for handmade products, they will go great lengths to find them and are willing to pay a bit more for something that was made with love instead of sweat.
However I also see the word handmade being misused. I'm not talking about mass producers or resellers incorrectly labeling their work as handmade to cheat buyers, which is a serious problem on its own. I'm talking about people buying premades, molds, cabochons, or complete pieces, doing some minimal work to it and later calling it "100% handmade". And accepting full praise - and price $$ - for it.
I've seen this so much that I've begun to doubt my own definition and wonder what other people consider to be handmade, so I'm reaching out to you, my fel
