Tribute ~ Remembering Lisa Schneider

Rest in Peace, Lisa Schneider.Dear Lisa. It's a big shame you left us yesterday.
When I read the message written by your father today in the morning,
I almost collapsed. You were such a close friend to me, we wanted to
meet each other.. I sent a letter to you on saturday.. It arrived when
your soul was already gone..
Gone to a place I cannot define.
Lisa, you have been so nice to all of us! Your vitality has always encouraged
me to go on. You encouraged me to believe in myself, to believe in the future.
Everytime I was down you made me feel happy again.. And I cannot write this
without crying silent tears. You have been one of the nicest girls I have ever
talked to on the internet.
I know you cannot read this, or maybe you can, but you cannot answer. But Lisa, we will never forget you.
You are a special person, and we will remember you forever!
Rest in Peace, Lisa.

Yours, Olivia.

Deviousness Award, June 2012

Deviousness!? Whaaaa...I was in Australia until just a few days ago, and when I logged onto the site on June 1st over there I noticed I had received Deviousness for this month!
I really never expected it, and I'm honored that the community and site have recognized my hard work and willingness to help out whenever I can. I know I haven't been around as much lately, but I hope to spend more time on the site in the coming months. I've just been really busy and most of the work I've been doing I can't show yet.
But, I wanted to thank deviantART for being such a useful and vital platform for my art and my career, without it I certainly wouldn't be where I'm at today. I also wanted to thank everyone for their kind words, and while I can't respond to all the messages, please know that I definitely read every last one. You guys are fantastic and I'm so glad to be a part of the community with you.
Take care, and ke

deviantMEET

CleveMeet Pics! The deviantMeet was pretty much a success! Pictures posted at WDWParksGal, as well as at ohioDeviants ~ if you are from Ohio or love Ohio, be sure to join the group!!
Arrival at Huntington Reservation on Lake Erie just west of Cleveland, Ohio:

Sitting in front of the Art Building having a snack made by Topicality and enjoying chatting and the gorgeous view. There was wind, and it was a bit cool but such a lovely day til the sprinkles started later in the afternoon:

Still by the Art Building, this picture taken by copperrein

We switched across the street closer to the lake for a group picture and to set up shop on the picnic tables in order to draw (the wind kept blowing paper everywhere :giggle:), color, talk and get to know each other:

CleveMeet Wrap-Up and the Adventure Home:devart: The CleveMeet was a rousing success! The day was beautiful, albeit a bit windy and sprinkles were on the horizon, but Huntington Reservation is a gorgeous park with amenities and one fabulous beach and view of downtown Cleveland off in the distance. Ayame-Kenoshi came up with the idea for the meeting place, and it was easy to get to from all directions being accessible by freeway and turnpike travel.
The original devMeet was scheduled for 2 PM, but Ayame-Kenoshi had to be at Hopkins International (CLE) to board a flight to Paris for a devMeet there. The time was moved up to Noon, which worked out better for several deviants.
The gathering spot was in the parking lot in front of three converted houses (donated) that housed a restaurant, art museum/store and a café. There was seating everywhere, from picnic tables to a gazebo. A wrap-around porch to the café and convention center (the upstairs houses art shows and conventions and schedules for upcoming shows

Paris was EPIC!A little late report on the devMEET in Paris! I had to recover yesterday, haha. I've been reading through reports from other deviants, friends and staff and looking at a gazillion of photos that were taken during the meet. I figured I'd write my own report on it! Could be a little TL;DR, but for those interested, continue reading!
So, FritsPlays (Frits) and namenotrequired (Bart) decided I had to be at the devMEET. Period. So they paid a huge amount for tickets and I couldn't be more thankful. It's definitely something I wouldn't have want to miss!
June 9th, at 4.45 AM my alarm went off. I got up all excited! I usually have a hard time getting out of bed, but today was different in every way possible, haha. I got ready and left my place at 5.45 and got on the 6.00 AM train to Amsterdam. I texted Frits to make sure he was awake and didn't sleep through his alarm like two years ago when we went to Berlin :B He was awake! Yay! Got a text back from AnaNaszynska (Ana) that she was ke

Hey guys!
On Sunday 1st July, I will be organising a devmeet in Amsterdam! Ever wanted to meet your fellow deviants? Join us on this (hopefully) sunny Sunday afternoon for a lunch, a babble and maybe artistic endeavours and dA goodies... :D if you can bring your camera, sketchbook, portfolio, whatever you have :eager:
We will meet at 1 pm at the Central Station (specifically, at the Hema next to the Starbucks, at the southern side where the west and mid tunnels under the platforms join), from where we'll walk to the Leids square to find a nice place to have lunch and hang out. I'm working on a plan B in case of bad weather.
Please comment if you'd like to come, and feel free to ask any questions :D

Voila! Paris deviantMEET Wrap-Up!:target: Bonjour deviants!
This past weekend, deviantART teamed up with DeviantMEET-Paris to host a deviantMEET that ultimately yielded over 250 deviant attendees!  As you may have read in the latest Site Update, our Devious Technology, Product, and Product Marketing teams are currently in France -- participating in a staff retreat, that has everyone working hard to improve and optimize many key areas of deviantART.  On Saturday, June 9th, we took a small break from our discussions and traveled to the City of Light to meet and mingle with Parisian deviants.  Here's a quick recap of the day's events!
We met at Mécano Bar, where we were welcomed by early arriving attendees and current/former Community Volunteers -- including AnaNaszynska, and Anoya, namenotrequired and FritsPlays, who traveled all the way from T

Many people would like to make use of the Premium Membership features of dA, but of course not everyone is able to reserve some bucks for this, or to use them online. Thankfully, deviantART has a wonderful community where many people are willing to help each other out. One way to get a Premium Membership eventhough you cannot pay, is to participate in contests where you can win premium memberships, or points to pay for them - this list will hopefully help you find some to enter. :eager:

"When is the best time to plant a tree? Twenty years ago. The second best time? Today."
- Chinese proverb
2014: This is the 3rd year of the project. There are many people supporting it, featuring it in their journal and offering art. BUT... There have been NO trees planted for it in the last year (I don't count mine). So, instead of talking about it, how about getting up and actually planting a tree, if you are able to? There is a lot of wonderful art waiting for you as a reward!
Trees are important, valuable and necessary to our very existence. It's not too hard to believe that, without trees we humans would not exist on this beautiful planet. Trees are the largest and longest living organisms on earth. To grow tall the tree has become a miracle of engineering and a complex chemical factory. It is able to take water and

Make a Difference aims to do exactly that. This series of articles will hopefully make a difference to you as well as the artists featured weekly. Just by giving one minute of your time to write constructive comments, favourites and even watches will make a difference to these artists.

:thumb299389918: :thumb276203137: Project Plushie needs YOUR SUPPORTI bet you're wondering why I've written this News Article. Well, the reason, simply put, is this:

Now, you're probably wondering why I put a picture of my Cute Monsters contest entry in a news article. The simple fact of it is that if I win, I'll use some of the prize money to buy stuffed toys for underprivileged children for Christmas. I will buy 10 Fella plushies and 10 Super Llama plushies to give to Toys for Tots for Christmas, and that's where I need your help. Obviously I can't vote for myself, and I'm trying to raise the money (via :points: ) to buy the plushies. If I don't get enough points by Christmas, and if I win the shirt competition, I'll buy the necessary amount of points left to buy the plushies. So if you want to do a kind deed, vote for my entry, donate points to me, or both. If you don't do either, I'll send the poor kids to you and then you can explain why they don't have a single toy under their tree on Christm

A bit of Help + All on the tableEdit: I saw MasterMindMan's Letters to Jane Doe project and wrote in.  He ended up giving me a featured article, which is absolutely touching.  I ask anyone who has had a less than perfect life to go read (or anyone who is curious).  But I also ask you guys not to treat me any differently; aside from the anxiety, the depression and the homosexuality (which to me is not an issue lol), everything in there is a good 5-10 years in the past.  Things are far from perfect but they have gotten better, which is the only point I was aiming for.  And that I am willing to listen and help if I can.  But yeah, I'm rambling.  Here's the article http://news.deviantart.com/article/142304/ /edit
My finances for university finally got sorted out, and I am short a ton of money for tuition.  I am job hunting, but so far it isn't getting many results.  So anything extra would be greatly appreciated.&

CSS News, Links & Information

CSS Contest: Pure and White - EndedWhile people love to work on skins that burst with colors, it is now time to take a step back and try something new.
Not everybody feels comfortable using white, but this time it will be your challenge! Do you feel ready for it?
For this contest you have to create a new design or skin that uses white as the dominant 'color'. You are allowed to use only one additional color, but can use any shade of grey. There should be no black added to your entry either!
Only exception to this would be very small buttons and 1 smaller photo to enhance your entry.
Create something clean, fresh and pure that will enhance your own experience or those of random guests and visitors.
If you are not a coder feel free to create a design, if you know your business go ahead and create a complete skin. Choose on your own if it will be for a journal or a gallery.

Those examples do not match the description above 100%, but they should give you an idea of the contest theme and point in t
News June 2012General
Given the fact that we have nearly 3k watchers and members in total, it is a bit sad that we don't get much feedback on journals and polls.
The current one has only 29 votes which isn't really much if you compare both numbers. Not sure if it is my fault as a group admin or if this group isn't hm... 'important/famous' enough to interact with. But i guess there isn't much i can do, to change that, can i?
Beside it seems like you want to have a contest. So i will get on my creative thinking hat and will see what i can come up with.  If you have any suggestions or ideas let me know. And should it be for coders only or should there be an option for non-coders as well?
I have also seen something nice some days ago. There was a pure HTML code given and people had the chance to style it via CSS. Imo this would be a nice way to run challenges. Having the same HTML structure and seeing what people can come up with. What do you think of that?

Photomanip: Interview with Ellyevans679Hello, deviantART!
It gives me great pleasure to present another photomanipulation-related interview developed and conducted by one of our own community members (not by me!). It is wonderful when members get involved with the community and share a bit of themselves with the rest of us; we can all learn a lot from one another, which is very important as we grow as artists (regardless of our level of experience).
Without further ado, here is the interview of Ellyevans679, written and conducted by XilaPhoenixArt.

Elle, tell us a bit about yourself, please.

PE: Photomanip - Interview with *simoneheldPE: Photomanip - Interview with Simone Held
Last week, I was fortunate to catch up with Simone, simoneheld, who has been a photomanipulator in our community for more than four years. The founder of PremierPhotomanips and administrator of various other photomanipulation groups and art groups in general across dA, Simone has an eye for identifying good photomanipulation and a passion for excellent artistry.
I chose to invite Simone for our Keynote interview because of her passion for our art form and also because of her vision. She has brilliant ideas and the skills to carry them out both respect to art creation and project design.
Here is our interview.
You've been on dA for over four years now! What brought you here in the first place, and why did you choose to learn photomanipulation specifically?
The reason why I came to dA is very simple: I wanted to share my art with others and see new and different art for myself
PE Photomanip: Dark photomanipulationWhat is Dark Photomanipulation?

Is dark manipulation romantic? Frightening? Cold? Is it full of untold possibilities or a scream waiting to erupt from your throat?
Dark photomanipulation has something for every shade of your dark mood and demeanor. If you visit our dark photomanipulation gallery, you will find everything from grimly beautiful women surrounded by crows to figures engrossed in decay and beautiful stagnation. Some pieces are soothing in their depths; some are startling in their grotesqueness.
So, once again, what is a dark photomanipulation?
When we submit our deviations to the Digital Art > Photomanipulation > Dark gallery, we see the following gallery description:
Photomanipulations which are dark in theme or mood, and have a mystical, obscure, sombre, grim, or sinister expression.
This is a good conceptual definition, but we also want to obtain a more operational definition fro
PE Photomanip: More on dark manipulationHi, everyone!
GUESS WHAT!!! You get a bonus blog today because . . . intano is in the house!! :woohoo: :blackrose:

Tugba took some time out of her very busy schedule to chat with me about dark photomanipulation and photomanipulation in general. These questions are similar to those that the lovely MarcelaBolivar answered in our dark photomanipulation interview from earlier in the series (click here). It is always useful to have more perspectives and ideas regarding dark art and its operational definition, and we are really grateful to both of these brilliant artists for sharing their wisdom with us.

Photomanip PE: Conversation with ^ElandriaHappy Thursday, everyone!
You know, as photomanipulators, we rely pretty heavily on the stock and resources community, and the opposite is true as well. It is because of this symbiotic relationship that both communities flourish, growing and evolving off of each other. Because of stock artists here on dA and elsewhere, we are able to create our manipulations. Stock inspires us; it drives us to create by capturing in visual image format that which we envision in our minds. So, for our Project Educate week, I sat down to have a conversation with Elandria, one of our Community Volunteers (CVs) for stock and resources and a fantastic digital artist, who I am fortunate enough to call a friend as well as a colleague.
Here's how that conversation went! :D

Another dAmn Interview! is a new series I've started up where I interview a deviant who is regular in the dAmn/Chatroom area of deviantART, and ask them to share their initial and current opinions on that area of the site. Since this is a new series I'd love some suggestions from you about how it can be improved, and any other questions you think should be asked. Thank you!
1. When did you start using dAmn compared to how long you've been on dA?
I started going on dAmn about 1-2 months after I joined dA back in 2008.
2. Which chatrooms do you usually hang out in? Any rooms you'd recommend do others?
There are several chatrooms that I tend to hangout it: iPhotograph, seniors, devart, ShareZone, CommunityRelations; there are a few others but these are the easist for someone to get intouch with me.
I would recommend iPhotograph for those who are interested in photography, it is a friendly room and I have met some great people there. I also would recommend Shar

Writing Better Character DescriptionsWriting Better Character Descriptions
We writers have a particularly tough job: bringing nonexistent people (our characters) to life in our readers’ imaginations. While it’s never easy, we usually accomplish this magic by writing each character with two qualities in mind:
1) Their personality
2) Their physical appearance
Personality is usually expressed through characterization, and appearance through physical description. Admittedly, that doesn't sound so complicated.
But there are two things I’ll suggest today: first, that description needs to do more than just craft appearance, and second, it’s good characterization, more than anything, that’s the key to conjuring vivid characters.
Character Description:
Let’s take a look at the following example.
1) When I entered Mr. Smith's office, he stood from his desk and smiled. He had a big nose, brown eyes, and short, blond hair. He wore a dark suit. I shook his hand.

:thumb283845763: Contributor+Co-Founder needed!Dear Members,
our group has reached 840+ members and I realize that the current number of admins is not enough. :iconsighsignplz:
We're in desperate need of one Contributor and one  Co-Founder.
If you are interested please, send a note to TheAppleScientist (me) telling why you are interested and if you have enough time (like 10-15 minutes a day) in order to vote for the incoming deviations. You must also be willing to re-read the rules carefully and act according to them.
I'll be waiting for your notes. :aww:
Have a nice day,
Daphne
P.S. I will announce the new admins at the end of May. I will judge from the notes, but also from your favourites gallery (I want to see what kind of art you like...) .
Let's get this party started!I've kind of been just letting this group sit around and collect dust and new members. 8D
HELLO EVERYBODY WHO JOINED IN THE LAST LIKE, 10 MONTHS.
It's time to set things in a bit more motion and shake off the dust.
First order of business, it really would be awesome to have more people join me on the admin team. The more people willling to help = more fun stuff we get to do with the group. I'd really like to do contests and features and such but I can't do it all alone. xD
If you want to be a co-founder or a contributer, just drop a comment saying so. I'll just take a quick look to make sure you log in more than once in a blue moon and then promote you into a position of POWER.
I have a large amount of faith in giving admin powers to a bunch of strangers and having magical things happen as the group works together. In my experience, group administration works just like that!
So don't be shy. |D
Second order of business, I used to actively seek out cool stamps to add to this group. xD I

Group Staff OpportunitiesAs some of you may have noticed, PhotographLove is running on a little bit of a lack of staff at the moment. Without the required staff members, it is hard to run all the aspects of a large group with just 2-3 people. So below, we have arranged a list of open staff opportunities.
**To apply for any job, note the group with the subject titled "JOB", then describe what job you want, why you would be good for the position, reasonings, etc.
*"Jobs" do not pay unless otherwise stated.

:bulletorange:Gallery Moderator
The Gallery Moderator is to moderate all of the deviations being submitted into the Gallery and remove ones that do not belong. As simple as that :) We are looking for multiple users to take this position.
:bulletblue:General Moderator
This job has all the same responsibilities as the Gallery Moderator, but will be in charge of keeping the group "up to date" too - meaning socializing with our members, accepting/declining submissions
Need Group Mods and Proboards Coders/DesignersYoutube | FormSpring | All Equine Roleplay
I am looking for people to help me moderate some of my Groups. This is because I would like to start working on my own artwork/stories for a change. I also feel like if the upkeep was handled mostly by mods, I could focus on other Group things that need to be done, like (re)writing rules, tweaking layouts, doing overhauls, and other Group activities that are generally the responsibility of the Founder. Nothing that needs to be done at any of my Groups is above me though, so I will also be doing the jobs I'm asking my moderators to do if I get to them first.
I have a lot of Groups (with ideas for more), however, I am not going to make more Groups any time soon, so don't get excited about that. The Groups I already have up and running need to be well-oiled, smooth

If you would like to become an admin then just send me a note! :la::note::la:

Make sure you say whether it is console or PC though :giggle:

The Neglected Importance of the Online CommunityWhat is the Worldwide Online Community?
The Worldwide Online Community is simply a group of people from a wide variety of countries and continents who come together to share their skills, experience, and/or love for a subject. Online communities are a fairly new faction and are not fully understood, their importance is neglected and may not reach their full potential until the next generation incorporates them more and more. It wasn't until the '90s that the Internet or World Wide Web really became a part of the culture, but in less then 20 years its impact has changed society from top to bottom.
In order to really delve into the importance of the worldwide online community, one must first define what it is. There are hundreds of different definitions of what an online community is, but this statement is generally accepted throughout these definitions.
Worldwide online communities are groups of people who join together on the Internet with a common int

UE Updates June 2012New Icon
I'm sure some of you have already noticed that we have a new icon.  Our old one was outdated and was actually never meant to be a permanent or long term icon for the group to begin with.  Please give much love to our very own MoltoFuckingBene for making our new icon.  There were actually more horses in it, but it was unfortunately too large a file and she had to shrink it down some.  None the less it's lovely and quite refreshing.  Thank you MoltoFuckingBene!

Drawing a line in the sand?
When I first made this group several years back the idea in my head was for equines that were bright red, or had 5 heads, or equines mixed with turtles, Just something you absolutely would not and do not see commonly. Even normal unicorns and Pegasi were not my idea of what I wanted in the group, though I am not one to reject things so I felt they were perfectly okay as long as they were not overrunning the group.

#SixWordStories: Monthly ShowcaseA type of Flash Fiction, six word stories are (very) short stories with an exact word count: six words. SixWordStories is the place where, alongside quality, quantity really does matter. Though these stories are so brief in length, they can be as profound, if not more, than the prose and poetry you see and read every day, partly because six word stories can tell us so much and yet contain so little.
In our feature articles, we will be showcasing six word stories submitted to Freestyle folder.

"From when I used to do photography what I struggled with most was the backgrounds, I wanted to focus in on the objects and then I'd take it to my tutors and they'd go "it's nice but the background is your desk, or your bookshelf" Unless I'm shooting on an infinity curve I struggle to 'see' appropriate backgrounds for my set up..." Lilly McElroy throws herself at men in the name of Photography. That is quite literally, what she does. And when I stumbled across the article this week I was tickled to read more into her project and the profoundness behind it all. Lilly initially started out on Craigslist, trying to find men to throw herself at but unfortunately she didn't get much response. In the end she went public, approaching men in pubs and clubs to try and recreate that social situation where so many throw themselves at strangers with such ease (and often with not much grace).

Photography Trouble Shooting: LightingRecently during a projecteducate week focusing on Still Life Photography we asked for you to share the issues that you might have when trying to obtain some great Still Life Shots. Through this series of articles we hope to answer some of the queries or give you that push you need to step outside boundaries and get creative. The first frustration came from 1510 who struggled with Lighting additionally a further 19 Deviants voted on the poll to indicate they had the same issues.

"Lighting. I always have to use just window or lamps which are never
good. kind of given up on still life photos, even I have still tons of
ideas..." 1510

"1510 lamps and natural light are a perfectly good way of lighting a subject. Many 'professional' lighting solutions, particularly the ones that burn 'hot' or constantly, are not much more than high wattage incandescent light bulbs often with some sort of cooling (to prolong the lifespan of the bulb).

Tony Ray-Jones was an English street photographer. In the early 60′s he traveled to the U.S for studying for a Master of Fine Arts in graphic design at Yale. He moved to NY after graduating and got a job as an art director for CBS records but he was determined to become a photographer. In New York he became good friends with Joel Meyerowitz and became part of the NY street photographers scene led by Garry Winogrand.
Jones kept notebooks, a journal if you'd like in which he wrote down his thoughts, lists and plans about photography. In one of those lists, titled "Approach" he listed some tips for better street photographs. These tip are still valid today and can be used as a basic guidelines to better street photography.

Now what you may think is a rant because it sounds like it is within the first 2 paragraphs actually isn't and I think many of you will be a tad shocked at what you read considering how outspoken I am when it comes to deviantART and the way the site is run. Please read that and come back here to my journal after doing so.
Truth is though, I was basically kicking back Friday evening and just relaxing. I had never really paid much attention to my gallery on here. Sure it is there, however I have never really looked at it for the perspective of an outsider before. I saw a lot which really inspired me. A message for you all.Hello, everybody.
I don't know whether you'd like to read this journal or not, because it's a kind
of self-discovery.
Almost two years ago I started DSLR-photography and I really was not sure
whether this is a good idea.
Finally, after some months (it took me very long to see that photography may
be a kind of "talent" or "determination")
I saw that it was fun and that photography makes me happy.
My down-periods were not as bad as in former times, because I can express my
feelings with photography now.
Many people told me that I cannot express my feelings in nature-pictures,
because my objects are just plants.
I am sure that I am right, because I can find my feelings in some of my shots.
Second thing is, that I realized I do not take pictures for the community, but for
myself.
This picture

was not popular at all, but it makes me dreamy and tender and emotive.
It's what makes me happy, and what makes me express myself.
I will - of course - continue taking nature s

So I heard you like emotes? - Vol 126 - relaunchedSeries re-launch
After quite a gap I've decided to try re-launching my long running emote news article series. I've had a couple of people mention how much they enjoyed it and now I've got a bit of extra time I feel I can give it another go. It's coming back in near the same format and with a slight change to the name – 'So I heard you like emotes??' instead of the old 'So i herd u liek emotes??' as I wanted to drop the chatspeak element. I hope to post it every 1-2 weeks depending on how busy the community is at the time - So if you want more frequent articles keep posting more art ;p.
If you enjoy the series please do let me know, and if you have any suggestions or news you'd like advertised give me a note :)

WHAT IS STREET PHOTOGRAPHY?
Trying to define a genre of photography like Street, it implies the consciousness that one definition will never be enough, or exhaustive, or able to cover the molteplicity of its possibilities and situations. Nevertheless let's try to comprehend the philosophy behind the passion for street photography.
Let's start stating that a street photo is not a  photography of streets and it is not necessarily a photo taken in a street. So what does 'street' mean? Street is whatever background or surrounding, not staged, not posed by the photgrapher. And street is whatever photography which captures, explores humanity, the human behaviour, the relationships between individuals and between individuals and their surroundings.

Top Level Domain (TLD) is the technical name for ".com," ".net," ".org," or ".fr". These TLDs are controlled and issued by a worldwide organization called ICANN, short for the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.  When ICANN announced that it would accept applications for new TLDs, deviantART quickly realized that someone would try to nab ".art."
DeviantART is committed to have the .art TLD in the hands of representatives of the arts; people who know something about the Internet and the way art is presented and enabled by the Internet.  Nobody has more experience with this than the deviantART community that we are all building, participating in, and sharing with each other every day.

At the beginning of the week, the dT team worked on improving our internal development tools to increase efficiency.  Then, on Wednesday, we let any staff members at the retreat pitch fun and exciting ideas for deviantART features that could be built in two days. After each feature idea was pitched, everyone from dT chose which projects they'd like to work on. This week, the photomanipulation community will be introducing you to some of our styles, techniques, and concepts. We will show you our diversity and our style. We will demonstrate our skills and our creativity. You will be hearing from the community in their own voices what it means to be a photomanipulator here on dA.
Let's get started! :eager:
What is photomanipulation?
The official definition of "photomanipulation" (PM), according to deviantART, is: an image that is composed of two or more photographic elements to create something new. This definition has been very nicely analyzed and distinguished from other genres here, here, and here, but let's talk briefly about the three main components o

Current dA submissions guidelines define "Fantasy Photomanipulation" as photomanipulation that focuses on a fantasy theme. :XD: We have therefore set out to speak with our fantasy constituency and gain a better understanding of how they see and define the complexities of fantasy photomanipulation.
Fantasy Photomanipulation
We all know of dragons, wizards, sorcerers, witches, griffins, magic, fairies, fauns, and all other mystical and magical beings. We learned of them through stories, art, movies, and games. The fantasy genre has become increasingly popular because of movies like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and games like "Dungeons & Dragons" and "World of Warcraft," not to forget fantasy wr

PE Photomanip: Art with a ConceptWhat is Conceptual Art?
Answer: Conceptual art deals with ideas rather than with the final product. It is "art in which the idea behind a particular work, and the means of producing it, are more important than the finished work." http://dictionary.com
"Conceptual art is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic and material concerns." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conceptual_art
Conceptual art, a movement conceived in the 1960s, stresses the artist's concept rather than the art object itself. Conceptual art grew out of minimalism and "turned the artist's thoughts and ideas themselves into the primary artistic medium, appealing to the spectator's intellect instead of emotions." http://www.reference.com/browse/conceptual+art?s=t
Conceptual art is often confused with Surreal and Abstract because often they have some of the same elements. However, Conceptual art differs from Surreal
PE Photomanip: Get Surreal!
A tour in the world of Surreal Photomanipulations
For years, surreal photomanipulation and its artists have been showing a great variety of works in this style, surprising and inspiring to all of us with their images. If you already had the pleasure to see pieces of this genre, I´m sure you´ve been amazed with what a surreal piece can offer, but if you haven´t . . . what better time than this one to learn and see the incredible options this style have for you?
But first, the most important thing is to know what we are saying when we refer to a "surreal photomanipulation." To have a better understanding, let´s ask the most basic question . . .
What is a Surreal photomanip?
Surreal photomanipulations displays the mind and imagination of an artist and its unique way to represent that into the final work. These pieces can be really appealing to the eyes or disturbing. Subconscio
PE Photomanip: Let there be LIGHT!Light in Photomanipulation

Getting your light right when creating a photomanipulation sounds easy . . . until you sit down to try to do it! There are seemingly endless things to keep in mind: where the light source is, the intensity of the light, how pieces of your manipulation need to be composed so that they line up with the direction of the light in the piece, whether there could be multiple light sources, what color the light will be. . . .
And the goal for light in your manipulation is for the light to be consistent throughout so that it is telling a story. No pressure! It is not an overstatement to say that light will make or break your manipulation; I have declined many DD suggestions because of bad lighting. :XD:
Light can help you tell a story and is critical to your deviation. It adds emphasis, adds depth, contributes to realism, and draws the viewer's attention to where you want it to be

PE Photomanip: That's a Wrap!Thank You!
Photomanipulation Week here at projecteducate has been phenomenal, and that is entirely thanks to you, our viewers, and to the community members who made it happen. Our community wrote most of the articles; I just posted them. Our community interviewed many, many people and answered what had to have seemed like endless questions about how they do their stuff. And do you know, of the many people I asked, only one or two were unable? People contributed in spite of busy schedules, poor health conditions, other projects, and other competing demands because they knew this was important. I cannot thank you enough.
I wanted to show you the sheer number of people (well over 40) who participated in this event. Every one of these people made a significant contribution. Please, everyone show some love to the deviants who made this week possible (and then keep reading; more good stuff coming below this list):
