Hello Members, Watchers and Visitors,

Tribute ~ Remembering Lisa Schneider

Rest in Peace, Lisa Schneider.Dear Lisa. It's a big shame you left us yesterday.
When I read the message written by your father today in the morning,
I almost collapsed. You were such a close friend to me, we wanted to
meet each other.. I sent a letter to you on saturday.. It arrived when
your soul was already gone..
Gone to a place I cannot define.
Lisa, you have been so nice to all of us! Your vitality has always encouraged
me to go on. You encouraged me to believe in myself, to believe in the future.
Everytime I was down you made me feel happy again.. And I cannot write this
without crying silent tears. You have been one of the nicest girls I have ever
talked to on the internet.
I know you cannot read this, or maybe you can, but you cannot answer. But Lisa, we will never forget you.
You are a special person, and we will remember you forever!
Rest in Peace, Lisa.

Yours, Olivia.

Deviousness Award, June 2012

Celebrating Deviousness - June 2012 Deviousness Award
Deviousness Award

Congratulations to `Rahll

 Portal

 Frigid Warmth.

 Aurora

 What is this Awesome Achievement?

The Deviousness Award is an accolade which is traditionally handed out on the 1st of every month to one truly outstanding deviant.

`Rahll is a superbly talented deviant with a gallery filled to the brim with outstanding sci-fi concept art. Reid has grown to be a highly respected artist within the industry and has provided artwork for various games and movies such as "The Hunger Games" and "Brothers in Arms". Despite such a high flying workload, `Rahll always finds time to sustain his presen
Deviousness!? Whaaaa...I was in Australia until just a few days ago, and when I logged onto the site on June 1st over there I noticed I had received Deviousness for this month!
I really never expected it, and I'm honored that the community and site have recognized my hard work and willingness to help out whenever I can. I know I haven't been around as much lately, but I hope to spend more time on the site in the coming months. I've just been really busy and most of the work I've been doing I can't show yet.
But, I wanted to thank deviantART for being such a useful and vital platform for my art and my career, without it I certainly wouldn't be where I'm at today. I also wanted to thank everyone for their kind words, and while I can't respond to all the messages, please know that I definitely read every last one. You guys are fantastic and I'm so glad to be a part of the community with you.
Take care, and kee

deviantMEET

CleveMeet Pics! The deviantMeet was pretty much a success! Pictures posted at WDWParksGal, as well as at ohioDeviants ~ if you are from Ohio or love Ohio, be sure to join the group!!
Arrival at Huntington Reservation on Lake Erie just west of Cleveland, Ohio:

Sitting in front of the Art Building having a snack made by Topicality and enjoying chatting and the gorgeous view. There was wind, and it was a bit cool but such a lovely day til the sprinkles started later in the afternoon:

Still by the Art Building, this picture taken by copperrein

We switched across the street closer to the lake for a group picture and to set up shop on the picnic tables in order to draw (the wind kept blowing paper everywhere :giggle:), color, talk and get to know each other:

CleveMeet Wrap-Up and the Adventure Home:devart: The CleveMeet was a rousing success! The day was beautiful, albeit a bit windy and sprinkles were on the horizon, but Huntington Reservation is a gorgeous park with amenities and one fabulous beach and view of downtown Cleveland off in the distance. Ayame-Kenoshi came up with the idea for the meeting place, and it was easy to get to from all directions being accessible by freeway and turnpike travel.
The original devMeet was scheduled for 2 PM, but Ayame-Kenoshi had to be at Hopkins International (CLE) to board a flight to Paris for a devMeet there. The time was moved up to Noon, which worked out better for several deviants.
The gathering spot was in the parking lot in front of three converted houses (donated) that housed a restaurant, art museum/store and a café. There was seating everywhere, from picnic tables to a gazebo. A wrap-around porch to the café and convention center (the upstairs houses art shows and conventions and schedules for upcoming shows

Paris was EPIC!A little late report on the devMEET in Paris! I had to recover yesterday, haha. I've been reading through reports from other deviants, friends and staff and looking at a gazillion of photos that were taken during the meet. I figured I'd write my own report on it! Could be a little TL;DR, but for those interested, continue reading!
So, itsfrits (Frits) and namenotrequired (Bart) decided I had to be at the devMEET. Period. So they paid a huge amount for tickets and I couldn't be more thankful. It's definitely something I wouldn't have want to miss!
June 9th, at 4.45 AM my alarm went off. I got up all excited! I usually have a hard time getting out of bed, but today was different in every way possible, haha. I got ready and left my place at 5.45 and got on the 6.00 AM train to Amsterdam. I texted Frits to make sure he was awake and didn't sleep through his alarm like two years ago when we went to Berlin :B He was awake! Yay! Got a text back from AnaNaszynska (Ana) that she was ke
Utrecht devMEET postponed!Hello everybody! There's been a very important change of plans to the planned June 9 meeting in Utrecht. Because deviantART is hosting an official devMEET in Paris, France on the same day, we will be postponing the devMEET in Utrecht until further notice, as I will be traveling to Paris for it. We have not scheduled it for a later date yet, but if you want to host the devMEET in my honor, feel free to send me (itsfrits) a note and I will help you promote it on Nederlanders and answer any questions you might have about hosting a devMEET (it's really easy! :)).
No need to worry! The devMEET namenotrequired is hosting in Amsterdam on July 1 is still on! Visit his page for more information on that.
I apologize for any inconvenience. Hopefully someone is willing and able to host a Utrecht meet on June 9!

Hey guys!
On Sunday 1st July, I will be organising a devmeet in Amsterdam! Ever wanted to meet your fellow deviants? Join us on this (hopefully) sunny Sunday afternoon for a lunch, a babble and maybe artistic endeavours and dA goodies... :D if you can bring your camera, sketchbook, portfolio, whatever you have :eager:
We will meet at 1 pm at the Central Station (specifically, at the Hema next to the Starbucks, at the southern side where the west and mid tunnels under the platforms join), from where we'll walk to the Leids square to find a nice place to have lunch and hang out. I'm working on a plan B in case of bad weather.
Please comment if you'd like to come, and feel free to ask any questions :D

Voilà! Paris deviantMEET Wrap-Up!:target: Bonjour deviants!
This past weekend, deviantART teamed up with DeviantMEET-Paris to host a deviantMEET that ultimately yielded over 250 deviant attendees! As you may have read in the latest Site Update, our Devious Technology, Product, and Product Marketing teams are currently in France -- participating in a staff retreat, that has everyone working hard to improve and optimize many key areas of deviantART. On Saturday, June 9th, we took a small break from our discussions and traveled to the City of Light to meet and mingle with Parisian deviants. Here's a quick recap of the day's events!
We met at Mécano Bar, where we were welcomed by early arriving attendees and current/former Community Volunteers -- including anmari, and Anoya, namenotrequired and itsfrits, who traveled all the way from Th

Many people would like to make use of the Premium Membership features of dA, but of course not everyone is able to reserve some bucks for this, or to use them online. Thankfully, deviantART has a wonderful community where many people are willing to help each other out. One way to get a Premium Membership eventhough you cannot pay, is to participate in contests where you can win premium memberships, or points to pay for them - this list will hopefully help you find some to enter. :eager:

Solutions Sanctuary

dA Solutions Sanctuary 2012The Complaint Challenge - A Year Long Endeavor
People complain about a lot of things on deviantART. Some of those complaints are perfectly legitimate, some not so much. There are a lot of issues that can be solved with a simple search through dA's FAQ directory. Problems that can't be solved that way can be sent to the Help Desk.
But sometimes people complain about stuff that's not so simple. People complain that the quality of Daily Deviations is going downhill. They complain that Community Volunteers are impersonal or inaccessible. They complain that Critique doesn't happen often enough or that when it does, there's no quality to it. They complain about the fragmentation of _________ Community and how when they joined, things were so much better.
My submission to thorns Complaint Challenge is go

"When is the best time to plant a tree? Twenty years ago. The second best time? Today."
- Chinese proverb
2014: This is the 3rd year of the project. There are many people supporting it, featuring it in their journal and offering art. BUT... There have been NO trees planted for it in the last year (I don't count mine). So, instead of talking about it, how about getting up and actually planting a tree, if you are able to? There is a lot of wonderful art waiting for you as a reward!
Trees are important, valuable and necessary to our very existence. It's not too hard to believe that, without trees we humans would not exist on this beautiful planet. Trees are the largest and longest living organisms on earth. To grow tall the tree has become a miracle of engineering and a complex chemical factory. It is able to take water and

#fella Exhibition 01: Dream, Imagine, CreateThe first of our summer exhibitions is curated by zungzwang.
Carl Sagan once said that "Imagination will often carry us to worlds that never were. But without it we go nowhere. It is the fuel of the human mind and if we add a spice of creative vision, a little bit of technique and a piece of our dreams, we will get an incandescent combustion of art.
And even though life circumstances may try to cast some shadows over your imagination, you will always have your dreams. And art.
"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life", as once said Pablo Picasso. and who are we to argue with Picasso?
Dream, imagine and create.

Make a Difference #161Artists join deviantART to share their art and appreciate others. Due to the many artists out there, it's easy to get towed under and generally obscured from the public.
Make a Difference aims to do exactly that. This series of articles will hopefully make a difference to you as well as the artists featured weekly. Just by giving one minute of your time to write constructive comments, favourites and even watches will make a difference to these artists.

:thumb299389918: 100 Premium Memberships; 63,600 points!I am looking to collect 63,600 points by 25 December 2012!

How do you donate?
To donate to this cause, go to winehaus's page and click "Donate" on the donation pool, or go to the "Give" drop-down menu at the top-right of the page and select "Give Points." No matter which way you give, I still get them! :happybounce:
How else can you help besides donating?
To further help the cause, please favourite this news article and feature it in your next journal, poll, and send it to your friends! It will really mean a lot to the future recipients and myself. Project Plushie needs YOUR SUPPORTI bet you're wondering why I've written this News Article. Well, the reason, simply put, is this:

Now, you're probably wondering why I put a picture of my Cute Monsters contest entry in a news article. The simple fact of it is that if I win, I'll use some of the prize money to buy stuffed toys for underprivileged children for Christmas. I will buy 10 Fella plushies and 10 Super Llama plushies to give to Toys for Tots for Christmas, and that's where I need your help. Obviously I can't vote for myself, and I'm trying to raise the money (via :points: ) to buy the plushies. If I don't get enough points by Christmas, and if I win the shirt competition, I'll buy the necessary amount of points left to buy the plushies. So if you want to do a kind deed, vote for my entry, donate points to me, or both. If you don't do either, I'll send the poor kids to you and then you can explain why they don't have a single toy under their tree on Christm
UPDATES CONT. - Warm Winter Project: 2012UPDATE 9 - As of Sunday, November 25, 2012, I WAS ABLE TO MEET AND PURCHASE MY DONATION GOAL OF 50 HOODIES thanks to deviantART's 30% off Black Friday sale as well as my 10% Premium Member Discount. Congratulations to us and thank you to everyone who helped out!
UPDATE 8 - As of Saturday, November 17, 2012, we are at 125,125 points, with only 34,875 points left to go! I was able to purchase 2,000 points a moment ago to put directly into the pool myself. My original intent was to get 8,000, but I ended up working less than I expected this week and was unable to, but as of my next paycheck (in two weeks), I will be able to purchase 8,000! That will leave us with 26,875. And after TimberClipse's AWESOME point doubler, like the one that helped out and did so amazingly earlier in the year, that will be another 8,000, leaving us with only 18,875! And his doubler is already halfway full with much thanks to rainylake for immediately putting 2,000 points in

I revised my digital commissions prices (lowering some of them a little) to simplify the journal, which was becoming too long. :faint:
That said, since I'm in a One Piece mode I'll offer a discount on the normal price for the first three people who will commission me OP fanarts, even if fan-characters! However, said discount will only apply on drawings (either digital or traditional) and not on fanfictions or crafts.
OLDER NEWS
Just a fast update to let you know that I revised my literature commissions fees in order to simplify them a little... I hope they are easier to understand now, but feel free to ask me questions if you are still confused! ^^

Hello:icondragonhi:,
NO, there's NO WAY I'll use the new DA commission widget-_- if you paid me 100p for a premium download content, I would get 1$, but if you paid me 100p for a commission with the DA commission widget, I would get 0,80$. So: NO WAY I agree for such a mugging. And it's you who would loose on it because I would like to earn this 1$ anyway, so you would have to pay me 120p. And if we now think about me earning e.g. 100$ it hurts doesn't it? So: NO-NO. I'm not such a badass to choose such a thing if I have a better choice;]

A bit of Help + All on the tableEdit: I saw MasterMindMan's Letters to Jane Doe project and wrote in. He ended up giving me a featured article, which is absolutely touching. I ask anyone who has had a less than perfect life to go read (or anyone who is curious). But I also ask you guys not to treat me any differently; aside from the anxiety, the depression and the homosexuality (which to me is not an issue lol), everything in there is a good 5-10 years in the past. Things are far from perfect but they have gotten better, which is the only point I was aiming for. And that I am willing to listen and help if I can. But yeah, I'm rambling. Here's the article http://news.deviantart.com/article/142304/ /edit
My finances for university finally got sorted out, and I am short a ton of money for tuition. I am job hunting, but so far it isn't getting many results. So anything extra would be greatly appreciated.&

CSS Contest: Pure & White - EndedWhile people love to work on skins that burst with colors, it is now time to take a step back and try something new.
Not everybody feels comfortable using white, but this time it will be your challenge! Do you feel ready for it?
For this contest you have to create a new design or skin that uses white as the dominant 'color'. You are allowed to use only one additional color, but can use any shade of grey. There should be no black added to your entry either!
Only exception to this would be very small buttons and 1 smaller photo to enhance your entry.
Create something clean, fresh and pure that will enhance your own experience or those of random guests and visitors.
If you are not a coder feel free to create a design, if you know your business go ahead and create a complete skin. Choose on your own if it will be for a journal or a gallery.

News June 2012General
Given the fact that we have nearly 3k watchers and members in total, it is a bit sad that we don't get much feedback on journals and polls.
The current one has only 29 votes which isn't really much if you compare both numbers. Not sure if it is my fault as a group admin or if this group isn't hm... 'important/famous' enough to interact with. But i guess there isn't much i can do, to change that, can i?
Beside it seems like you want to have a contest. So i will get on my creative thinking hat and will see what i can come up with. If you have any suggestions or ideas let me know. And should it be for coders only or should there be an option for non-coders as well?
I have also seen something nice some days ago. There was a pure HTML code given and people had the chance to style it via CSS. Imo this would be a nice way to run challenges. Having the same HTML structure and seeing what people can come up with. What do you think of that?
It could also be used to crea

Photomanip: Interview with Ellyevans679Hello, deviantART!
It gives me great pleasure to present another photomanipulation-related interview developed and conducted by one of our own community members (not by me!). It is wonderful when members get involved with the community and share a bit of themselves with the rest of us; we can all learn a lot from one another, which is very important as we grow as artists (regardless of our level of experience).
Without further ado, here is the interview of Ellyevans679, written and conducted by XilaPhoenixArt.

PE: Photomanip - Interview with *simoneheldPE: Photomanip - Interview with Simone Held
Last week, I was fortunate to catch up with Simone, simoneheld, who has been a photomanipulator in our community for more than four years. The founder of PremierPhotomanips and administrator of various other photomanipulation groups and art groups in general across dA, Simone has an eye for identifying good photomanipulation and a passion for excellent artistry.
I chose to invite Simone for our Keynote interview because of her passion for our art form and also because of her vision. She has brilliant ideas and the skills to carry them out both respect to art creation and project design.
Here is our interview.
You've been on dA for over four years now! What brought you here in the first place, and why did you choose to learn photomanipulation specifically?
The reason why I came to dA is very simple: I wanted to share my art with others and see new and different art for myself
PE Photomanip: Dark photomanipulationWhat is Dark Photomanipulation?

Is dark manipulation romantic? Frightening? Cold? Is it full of untold possibilities or a scream waiting to erupt from your throat?
Dark photomanipulation has something for every shade of your dark mood and demeanor. If you visit our dark photomanipulation gallery, you will find everything from grimly beautiful women surrounded by crows to figures engrossed in decay and beautiful stagnation. Some pieces are soothing in their depths; some are startling in their grotesqueness.
So, once again, what is a dark photomanipulation?
When we submit our deviations to the Digital Art > Photomanipulation > Dark gallery, we see the following gallery description:
Photomanipulations which are dark in theme or mood, and have a mystical, obscure, sombre, grim, or sinister expression.
This is a good conceptual definition, but we also want to obtain a more operational definition fro
PE Photomanip: More on dark manipulationHi, everyone!
GUESS WHAT!!! You get a bonus blog today because . . . intano is in the house!! :woohoo: :blackrose:

Tugba took some time out of her very busy schedule to chat with me about dark photomanipulation and photomanipulation in general. These questions are similar to those that the lovely MarcelaBolivar answered in our dark photomanipulation interview from earlier in the series (click here). It is always useful to have more perspectives and ideas regarding dark art and its operational definition, and we are really grateful to both of these brilliant artists for sharing their wisdom with us.

Photomanip PE: Conversation with ^ElandriaHappy Thursday, everyone!
You know, as photomanipulators, we rely pretty heavily on the stock and resources community, and the opposite is true as well. It is because of this symbiotic relationship that both communities flourish, growing and evolving off of each other. Because of stock artists here on dA and elsewhere, we are able to create our manipulations. Stock inspires us; it drives us to create by capturing in visual image format that which we envision in our minds. So, for our Project Educate week, I sat down to have a conversation with Elandria, one of our Community Volunteers (CVs) for stock and resources and a fantastic digital artist, who I am fortunate enough to call a friend as well as a colleague.
Here's how that conversation went! :D

Another dAmn Interview! is a new series I've started up where I interview a deviant who is regular in the dAmn/Chatroom area of deviantART, and ask them to share their initial and current opinions on that area of the site. Since this is a new series I'd love some suggestions from you about how it can be improved, and any other questions you think should be asked. Thank you!
1. When did you start using dAmn compared to how long you've been on dA?
I started going on dAmn about 1-2 months after I joined dA back in 2008.
2. Which chatrooms do you usually hang out in? Any rooms you'd recommend do others?
There are several chatrooms that I tend to hangout it: iPhotograph, seniors, devart, ShareZone, CommunityRelations; there are a few others but these are the easist for someone to get intouch with me.
I would recommend iPhotograph for those who are interested in photography, it is a friendly room and I have met some great people there. I also would recommend Shar

Describing your CharactersDescribing your Characters
As writers, one of our primary goals is to bring characters to life in the readers’ imaginations. To do this, a character needs two things:
1) A personality.
2) A physical appearance the reader can imagine.
The first is created through characterization, and the second is said to be done through physical description. While both statements are true, what I’d like to discuss is how physical description needs to do more than just craft appearance, and more than anything, it's characterization that contributes to vividly imagined characters.
Character Description:
Take a look at the following example.
1) When I entered Mr. Smith's office, he stood and smiled at me. He had a big nose, brown eyes, and short, brown hair. He wore a dark suit. I shook his hand.
What do you know about Mr. Smith from this brief scene? The physical details I’ve given say that he has a big nose, brown eyes, and short, brown hair.
7 Tips To Instantly Become A Better ArtistPractice, practice, practice. Gah.
Attend life drawing classes over the summer. Blegh.
Take a sketchbook with you everywhere you go, and fill up ten of those bad boys at the coffee shop. Pfft.
Let's be honest here. We all want to become better artists, like, right frickin' now. We don't even want to have to suffer through hour-long tutorials of some pompous snooty hack bloviating over the intricate methods of drawing eyes on YouTube. We want progress, we want improvement, and we want it on our desk in ten minutes ago!
Fine, fine, I hear ya'. While these aren't going to make an instant Leonardo da Vinci out of you, these might get you up to...ehh...Basquiat caliber. Sure, I've made tutorials, but those are more about setting up Photoshop for the sake of coloring an image, and not so much building yourself artistically. Those are more technical lessons. Artistically
Demonstrably Deviant: Issue VIAbout
Sometimes we meet members of DeviantART who are just plain cool. They leave critique, they make great art or write great stories, they participate in groups and are generally just active and fun to be around. They also don't get any attention because being cool means you don't need attention to keep being cool. This interview series is meant to give all of you a small glimpse into the minds of these demonstrably deviant members. Twice monthly, I'll interview one of these deviants and feature work from their gallery. If you'd like to see someone interviewed for this series, just shoot me a note :note: with the subject "Demonstrably Deviant".

What was it that made you dive into the photomanipulation world? What do you like so much about it?
What made me dive into the world of manipulation were some artists here on DA! I first joined and started posting traditional art, but then I saw the works of some deviants here and that draw my curiosity.
What I like the most is the posibility to create something new using different images! it´s really funny that you can have several ideas using only 1 stock! the posibilities are unlimited!

Can you describe your artistic evolution since you joined dA?

I've learned and grown a lot alongside other talented artists. I wasn't even really committed to or interested in art back when I first joined Deviantart. I simply enjoyed dabbling with Photoshop in my after-school hours. It was through Deviantart and notable artists like !bitchinblack, `AlexandraVBach or flordelys that I learned just how much one can do with a tool like Photoshop. And I just said to myself "this is what I want to do. I wanted to created art through photomanipulation like

Since I was a child, I always loved all kinds of art and I discovered and experimented a lot. I started with drawing, then, having my first PC, I started to play with the basic program we should all know: "Paint". Well.. From Paint to Photoshop, there's much more fun! I discovered photomanipulations here on DA, and wanted to try. Today, photomanipulations are my favourite hobby. And I can't live witho
Interview with DuskriaInterview with :iconduskria:
First goes first: Alexandria, tell us a bit about yourself please.
My name is Alexandria Thompson, but everyone just calls me Alex. I’m a freelance Graphic Designer specializing in photomanipulation and mixed media. I'm always trying new things and enjoy experimenting with my work. I enjoy doing photomanipulation and just about anything else that allows me to do my craft.
How did your journey start to become a professional photomanipulator?
It started in July of ’07 with my love of Harry Potter actually. In the beginning I was a Traditional Artist, and though I still doodle from time to time, I found that digital art could really let me push my boundaries and break them down. I joined a graphics forum called The-Dark-Arts AKA TDA (which I'm still apart) and it grew from there into what it is today.

Wich things changed a lot since you joined deviantART? I mean about the community itself?
Considering I joined (under

Interview with DesignbyKattInterview with :icondesignbykatt:
A first question: Katt, tell us a bit about yourself please.
I am a wife and mother of 2 amazing boys. One just graduated form HS the other will next year. I teach special Ed and Coach track. I am a self taught digital artist. I am currently working for 2 publishing companies doing book covers.
What do you think of the dA community in whole?
I think DA is what you make it.. if you come here for art that's great, if you come for drama there is plenty of that too.. It's a place where you can learn and grow as an artist.
What was it that made you decide to start making photomanipulations?
One day I saw a digital photomanip..I had no idea what it was or how to do it. I had recently learned to make "tags" for emails and was blown away..I thought hey I can do that...well try anyway and thus began a sort of mini obsession with the digital arts.
What is in your opinion typical for you and your artworks? What makes your art so recognizable?
Wow that's a h

Groups Needing Administration Assistance

dACipher is in search of...You.
:icondACipher: is in search of people like you to help us and your community by volunteering as Heads (Co-Founders) and Contributors to help construct lessons and teach members techniques regarding the chosen media.
We are ALSO looking for Moderators to assist in promotion, chat moderation and as an option to assist as a Translator.

If you don't know about dACipher, or you've never heard of us before, feel free to check out our "About Us", our "Welcome Blog" and our blog "Heads, Contributors and Moderators Defined"
This is a great opportunity for an artist to get involved with the community; promoting socialization and positivity.

Rules: Commenter Guidelines:star: Commenters: Who are them, and what they do. :star:
Commenters are the equivalent of moderators and contributors, as part of our group you'll have to be on DA regularly, we don't want a full dedication, but the project have big ambition so we need people who access and is active several days of the week.
So before signing your interest with a contributor request please be sure you can guarantee a certain amount of time to be an active commenter, what you'll have to do is:
:pointr: Give Feedback
This is the main activity of a commenter of course, you'll have to check the deviation submitted to the group and give the constructive feedback to those under your galleries, and then accept them so other people of the group can comment too.
:pointr: Look for Member to Feature
While managing your galleries you'll see how active people are, so if you notice someone feature worthy just notice to the group, so we can make the montly journal, or maybe ask to be
Contributor+Co-Founder needed!Dear Members,
our group has reached 840+ members and I realize that the current number of admins is not enough. :iconsighsignplz:
We're in desperate need of one Contributor and one Co-Founder.
If you are interested please, send a note to TheAppleScientist (me) telling why you are interested and if you have enough time (like 10-15 minutes a day) in order to vote for the incoming deviations. You must also be willing to re-read the rules carefully and act according to them.
I'll be waiting for your notes. :aww:
Have a nice day,
Daphne
P.S. I will announce the new admins at the end of May. I will judge from the notes, but also from your favourites gallery (I want to see what kind of art you like...) .
Let's get this party started!I've kind of been just letting this group sit around and collect dust and new members. 8D
HELLO EVERYBODY WHO JOINED IN THE LAST LIKE, 10 MONTHS.
It's time to set things in a bit more motion and shake off the dust.
First order of business, it really would be awesome to have more people join me on the admin team. The more people willling to help = more fun stuff we get to do with the group. I'd really like to do contests and features and such but I can't do it all alone. xD
If you want to be a co-founder or a contributer, just drop a comment saying so. I'll just take a quick look to make sure you log in more than once in a blue moon and then promote you into a position of POWER.
I have a large amount of faith in giving admin powers to a bunch of strangers and having magical things happen as the group works together. In my experience, group administration works just like that!
So don't be shy. |D
Second order of business, I used to actively seek out cool stamps to add to this group. xD I

Group Staff OpportunitiesAs some of you may have noticed, PhotographLove is running on a little bit of a lack of staff at the moment. Without the required staff members, it is hard to run all the aspects of a large group with just 2-3 people. So below, we have arranged a list of open staff opportunities.
**To apply for any job, note the group with the subject titled "JOB", then describe what job you want, why you would be good for the position, reasonings, etc.
*"Jobs" do not pay unless otherwise stated.
Opportunities & Jobs
:bulletorange:Gallery Moderator
The Gallery Moderator is to moderate all of the deviations being submitted into the Gallery and remove ones that do not belong. As simple as that :) We are looking for multiple users to take this position.
:bulletblue:General Moderator
This job has all the same responsibilities as the Gallery Moderator, but will be in charge of keeping the group "up to date" too - meaning socializing with our members, accepting/declining submissions
Need Group Mods and Proboards Coders/DesignersYoutube | FormSpring | All Equine Roleplay
I am looking for people to help me moderate some of my Groups. This is because I would like to start working on my own artwork/stories for a change. I also feel like if the upkeep was handled mostly by mods, I could focus on other Group things that need to be done, like (re)writing rules, tweaking layouts, doing overhauls, and other Group activities that are generally the responsibility of the Founder. Nothing that needs to be done at any of my Groups is above me though, so I will also be doing the jobs I'm asking my moderators to do if I get to them first.
I have a lot of Groups (with ideas for more), however, I am not going to make more Groups any time soon, so don't get excited about that. The Groups I already have up and running need to be well-oiled, smooth

Admins!Hey!
We are quite a new group, but I was just wondering if any of you would like to become admins?
If you would like to become an admin then just send me a note! :la::note::la:
Also if any of you have a BF3 server then just comment on the group page with a link and we will try it out!
Make sure you say whether it is console or PC though :giggle:

The Neglected Importance of the Online CommunityWhat is the Worldwide Online Community?
The Worldwide Online Community is simply a group of people from a wide variety of countries and continents who come together to share their skills, experience, and/or love for a subject. Online communities are a fairly new faction and are not fully understood, their importance is neglected and may not reach their full potential until the next generation incorporates them more and more. It wasn't until the '90s that the Internet or World Wide Web really became a part of the culture, but in less then 20 years its impact has changed society from top to bottom.
In order to really delve into the importance of the worldwide online community, one must first define what it is. There are hundreds of different definitions of what an online community is, but this statement is generally accepted throughout these definitions.
Worldwide online communities are groups of people who join together on the Internet with a common int
Weekly Hunt #54 2.0Every Friday, there will be a 'Hunt' for either the Most or the Least of something or other. It's a weekly (hopefully) fun activity, open to all, that will get you scouring deviantART for the best possible piece that fits the 'Hunt'.
The person who suggests the best piece will get four of their art pieces featured on our page and, in return, the piece itself will also be featured on dAseniors' front page!
Two suggestions are allowed into this folder!

On my profile page, I feature a new deviation every day (or two or three). The piece is usually something that caught my eye. Could be an amazing digital painting, a fun stamp, a quick photograph that made me smile, perhaps a piece for a weekly theme, whatever. However, it moved me enough to share it with my visitors. Below is a list of the artists which I featured during January 2011. I am showcasing different pieces from their gallery in the hope of showing them a bit more love. UE Updates June 2012New Icon
I'm sure some of you have already noticed that we have a new icon. Our old one was outdated and was actually never meant to be a permanent or long term icon for the group to begin with. Please give much love to our very own MoltoFuckingBene for making our new icon. There were actually more horses in it, but it was unfortunately too large a file and she had to shrink it down some. None the less it's lovely and quite refreshing. Thank you MoltoFuckingBene!

Drawing a line in the sand?
When I first made this group several years back the idea in my head was for equines that were bright red, or had 5 heads, or equines mixed with turtles, Just something you absolutely would not and do not see commonly. Even normal unicorns and Pegasi were not my idea of what I wanted in the group, though I am not one to reject things so I felt they were perfectly okay as long as they were not overrunning the group.

#SixWordStories: Monthly ShowcaseA type of Flash Fiction, six word stories are (very) short stories with an exact word count: six words. SixWordStories is the place where, alongside quality, quantity really does matter. Though these stories are so brief in length, they can be as profound, if not more, than the prose and poetry you see and read every day, partly because six word stories can tell us so much and yet contain so little.
In our feature articles, we will be showcasing six word stories submitted to Freestyle folder.

Noise is all about how much light a camera can capture above its inherent noise floor (the natural noise that the sensor and electronics will always make regardless of what you do), the more 'signal' there is above the noise floor, the less visible the noise will be.

Lilly McElroy throws herself at men in the name of Photography. That is quite literally, what she does. And when I stumbled across the article this week I was tickled to read more into her project and the profoundness behind it all. Lilly initially started out on Craigslist, trying to find men to throw herself at but unfortunately she didn't get much response. In the end she went public, approaching men in pubs and clubs to try and recreate that social situation where so many throw themselves at strangers with such ease (and often with not much grace).

Tony Ray-Jones was an English street photographer. In the early 60′s he traveled to the U.S for studying for a Master of Fine Arts in graphic design at Yale. He moved to NY after graduating and got a job as an art director for CBS records but he was determined to become a photographer. In New York he became good friends with Joel Meyerowitz and became part of the NY street photographers scene led by Garry Winogrand.
Jones kept notebooks, a journal if you'd like in which he wrote down his thoughts, lists and plans about photography. In one of those lists, titled "Approach" he listed some tips for better street photographs. These tip are still valid today and can be used as a basic guidelines to better street photography.

I don't know whether you'd like to read this journal or not, because it's a kind
of self-discovery.
Almost two years ago I started DSLR-photography and I really was not sure
whether this is a good idea.
Finally, after some months (it took me very long to see that photography may
be a kind of "talent" or "determination")
I saw that it was fun and that photography makes me happy.
My down-periods were not as bad as in former times, because I can express my
feelings with photography now.
Many people told me that I cannot express my feelings in nature-pictures,
because my objects are just plants.
I am sure that I am right, because I can find my feelings in some of my shots.
Second thing is, that I realized I do not take pictures for the community, but for
myself.

It's what makes me happy, and what makes me express myself.

So I heard you like emotes? - Vol 126 - relaunchedSeries re-launch
After quite a gap I've decided to try re-launching my long running emote news article series. I've had a couple of people mention how much they enjoyed it and now I've got a bit of extra time I feel I can give it another go. It's coming back in near the same format and with a slight change to the name – 'So I heard you like emotes??' instead of the old 'So i herd u liek emotes??' as I wanted to drop the chatspeak element. I hope to post it every 1-2 weeks depending on how busy the community is at the time - So if you want more frequent articles keep posting more art ;p.
If you enjoy the series please do let me know, and if you have any suggestions or news you'd like advertised give me a note :)

The Lucky 13 (street tips)13 Street Photography Tips

WHAT IS STREET PHOTOGRAPHY?
Trying to define a genre of photography like Street, it implies the consciousness that one definition will never be enough, or exhaustive, or able to cover the molteplicity of its possibilities and situations. Nevertheless let's try to comprehend the philosophy behind the passion for street photography.
Let's start stating that a street photo is not a photography of streets and it is not necessarily a photo taken in a street. So what does 'street' mean? Street is whatever background or surrounding, not staged, not posed by the photgrapher. And street is whatever photography which captures, explores humanity, the human behaviour, the relationships between individuals and between individuals and their surroundings.
"The essence of street photography is the impulse to take candid pictures in the

Site Update: Staff Retreat, .Art, deviantMEETsIn this week's Site Update, we don't have any publicly visible changes, as our Devious Technology (dT), Product, and Product Marketing teams are all still at a staff retreat!
At the beginning of the week, the dT team worked on improving our internal development tools to increase efficiency. Then, on Wednesday, we let any staff members at the retreat pitch fun and exciting ideas for deviantART features that could be built in two days. After each feature idea was pitched, everyone from dT chose which projects they'd like to work on. Throughout the year, engineers primarily work on projects that are assigned to them, so sometimes it's important to turn the tables and let them choose projects in which they're most passionate and excited about.

Acts of Random Kindness!Hi there, fellow deviants!
In this small introductory journal, I'd like to explain an idea for a project I'm expanding upon.
So stay put, it's going to be an interesting read, I promise!
:happybounce:
What are Acts of Random Kindness?
Acts of Random Projects, also known as ARKs is a project that was initially started by MzzAzn and builds upon the idea of "paying it forward".
Basically, each month you commit yourself to doing at least one or two (or more) random acts of kindness to spread positivity throughout the community.
This can be done by leaving small positive comments on pieces that haven't been commented on yet, by making art for someone, by giving points to donate towards someone's goal and in a various amount of other ways. The main idea is simply to do something constructive to make another person smile. It doesn't need to be a big gesture, it's the sentiment behind it that counts.
Why should I participate?

Welcome to Photomanipulation Week!Welcome, all, to Photomanipulation Week here at Project Educate!
This week, the photomanipulation community will be introducing you to some of our styles, techniques, and concepts. We will show you our diversity and our style. We will demonstrate our skills and our creativity. You will be hearing from the community in their own voices what it means to be a photomanipulator here on dA.
Let's get started! :eager:
What is photomanipulation?
The official definition of "photomanipulation" (PM), according to deviantART, is: an image that is composed of two or more photographic elements to create something new. This definition has been very nicely analyzed and distinguished from other genres here, here, and here, but let's talk briefly about the three main components o

Is it macabre? Is it fantasy? Is it emotional?
It is up to you.

Current dA submissions guidelines define "Fantasy Photomanipulation" as photomanipulation that focuses on a fantasy theme. :XD: We have therefore set out to speak with our fantasy constituency and gain a better understanding of how they see and define the complexities of fantasy photomanipulation.
Fantasy Photomanipulation
We all know of dragons, wizards, sorcerers, witches, griffins, magic, fairies, fauns, and all other mystical and magical beings. We learned of them through stories, art, movies, and games. The fantasy genre has become increasingly popular because of movies like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter and games like "Dungeons & Dragons" and "World of Warcraft," not to forget fantasy wr

PE Photomanip: Art with a ConceptWhat is Conceptual Art?
Answer: Conceptual art deals with ideas rather than with the final product. It is "art in which the idea behind a particular work, and the means of producing it, are more important than the finished work." http://dictionary.com
"Conceptual art is art in which the concept(s) or idea(s) involved in the work take precedence over traditional aesthetic and material concerns." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conceptual_art
Conceptual art, a movement conceived in the 1960s, stresses the artist's concept rather than the art object itself. Conceptual art grew out of minimalism and "turned the artist's thoughts and ideas themselves into the primary artistic medium, appealing to the spectator's intellect instead of emotions." http://www.reference.com/browse/conceptual+art?s=t
Conceptual art is often confused with Surreal and Abstract because often they have some of the same elements. However, Conceptual art differs from Surreal
PE Photomanip: Get Surreal!
A tour in the world of Surreal Photomanipulations
For years, surreal photomanipulation and its artists have been showing a great variety of works in this style, surprising and inspiring to all of us with their images. If you already had the pleasure to see pieces of this genre, I´m sure you´ve been amazed with what a surreal piece can offer, but if you haven´t . . . what better time than this one to learn and see the incredible options this style have for you?
But first, the most important thing is to know what we are saying when we refer to a "surreal photomanipulation." To have a better understanding, let´s ask the most basic question . . .
What is a Surreal photomanip?
Surreal photomanipulations displays the mind and imagination of an artist and its unique way to represent that into the final work. These pieces can be really appealing to the eyes or disturbing. Subconscio
PE Photomanip: Let there be LIGHT!Light in Photomanipulation

Getting your light right when creating a photomanipulation sounds easy . . . until you sit down to try to do it! There are seemingly endless things to keep in mind: where the light source is, the intensity of the light, how pieces of your manipulation need to be composed so that they line up with the direction of the light in the piece, whether there could be multiple light sources, what color the light will be. . . .
And the goal for light in your manipulation is for the light to be consistent throughout so that it is telling a story. No pressure! It is not an overstatement to say that light will make or break your manipulation; I have declined many DD suggestions because of bad lighting. :XD:
Light can help you tell a story and is critical to your deviation. It adds emphasis, adds depth, contributes to realism, and draws the viewer's attention to where you want it to be

PE Photomanip: That's a Wrap!Thank You!
Photomanipulation Week here at projecteducate has been phenomenal, and that is entirely thanks to you, our viewers, and to the community members who made it happen. Our community wrote most of the articles; I just posted them. Our community interviewed many, many people and answered what had to have seemed like endless questions about how they do their stuff. And do you know, of the many people I asked, only one or two were unable? People contributed in spite of busy schedules, poor health conditions, other projects, and other competing demands because they knew this was important. I cannot thank you enough.
I wanted to show you the sheer number of people (well over 40) who participated in this event. Every one of these people made a significant contribution. Please, everyone show some love to the deviants who made this week possible (and then keep reading; more good stuff coming below this list):

PE - Welcome to Digital Dolls!Hey everyone! Welcome to Dolling week of Project Educate! I suppose I'll start it out with what the heck I'm even talking about.
Digital dolls! A term coined by DeviantArt, but a very fitting term indeed! Dolls are basically small pixel-art (usually of people) typically created from a base-body (a naked, bald pixel-person) that another doller has made.
That was a mouth-full, huh? Just think of them as digital paper-dolls.

So what's this about a base-body? Bases are actually a huge part of the dolling experience. If you notice, in the three example dolls up there, the artist credits another artist for the 'base'. Almost every doll is like a collaboration between two artists, making dolling that much more fun! Some people choose to edit the base they use til it's barely recognizable, and some people prefer to leave them as they were!

So where can
PE - Dolling 101 (Or Dolling For Beginners)
Hello, welcome to Dolling 101! We'll be going over all the basics that every beginner doller should know. There's a lot, so let's get to it!
Lesson 1: Terminology/Vocabulary
:bulletpink:What is a Doll?:bulletpink:
:bulletpink: It might help to begin this article by telling you what you're reading about! A doll, or as we call them on DeviantArt, Digital Dolls, are small graphics, usually pixel-art, of people and characters. People create these by taking a base body another person has made, and creating art on it - designing clothes and hair, and turning the blank template into whatever kind of character they can imagine.
I will go over dolls more in detail, but that's the very basic description. Please, read on!
:bulletpink:What is a Base?:bulletpink:
:bulletpink:Bases! You're probably familiar with this term. That's right, those pixel line-arts of bald/naked people that

PE - Interview with LadyHazy:iconladyhazy::iconladyhazy::iconladyhazy:

First of all, how long have you been dolling? What got you into it?
I made some doll-like stuff from around 1998. So that's around 14 years. Back then, personal sites and "adoptables" were all the rage, and I just wanted to make some of my own. If you remember Angel's Chimera Dreams, Starluck's Sweetwater Valley, BearJest's, Amanda's Page Guardians, and the like, then there you go. I also got into the Kiss Doll community at OtakuWorld via the Magic Knight Rayearth fandom.
I wouldn't have called
PE - History of DollingWritten by IridescentStardust and ducky-overlord
The original idea behind dolls (and why they're called dolls in the first place) comes from the cut-out paper dolls - a paper cut-out of a figure (typically in underwear) with separate clothes that hold onto the figure with folding tabs.
The first popular version of virtual 'paper dolls' was through a Japanese program called KiSS (Kisekae Set System), dating back to 1991. Originally they were the same as paper dolls - only on the computer. A base figure, or template, had different sets of clothes to drag and drop onto the template. Using layers, they were able to create an illusion of depth not possible with paper dolls (for example - a figure with their hands in front of them would have different layers, making it easy to have a sleeve in front of the chest, a bag, arm-warmers, or other accessories).
These vir
PE - Interview with Metroid-Tamer:iconmetroid-tamer::iconmetroid-tamer::iconmetroid-tamer:

First of all, how long have you been dolling? What got you into it?
I've been dolling for about eight years. My initial interest in pixel art came about when I was a child. Specifically, it was Super Metroid that rose my interest in pixel art. When I was fourteen I discovered some pixel art on dA that led me to ~angychan's "Yumestudio" site where I discovered dolling. I was blown away. I couldn't believe that dolling existed and it really changed my view further. It was at that point I decided to take up dolling as a hobby. I've enjoyed myself since.
What did you think of dolling before you learned more about it?
It was amazing and intimidating to me. I think intimidation was the bigger of the two feelings because, at the time, my skill was so
PE - Intro to PageantsWritten by snap-hiss, slightly-caustic, ducky-overlord, IridescentStardust
Dolling is fun, whether you start from a base or make one yourself. But what if you want to see how hour skills measure up to everyone else's? There are lots of dolling contests around dA and the web (like the Gender Twisted Redoll contest and the BonBon Base Edit contest), and a pageant is just a mega-contest! That usually means there are three or four different rounds, and you might have to make more than one doll for each round.
The first pageants were inspired by real-life beauty pageants like Miss World and Miss Universe, so they had the standard swimsuit rounds and evening gown rounds.

PE - Interview with CaitlinCaitieCait:iconcaitlincaitiecait::iconcaitlincaitiecait::iconcaitlincaitiecait:

First of all, how long have you been dolling? What got you into it?
I’ve been dolling for…Hmm…about five years. I started how I think most dollers start – I saw and loved playing with the dollmakers from places like The Doll Palace and DollzMania. I eventually got bored with how long it took for new makers to come out started trying to figure out how to go about making my own dolls. I found DHF and their tutorials and started with those.
What did you think of dolling before you learned more about it?
I didn’t really know anything much about dolling before I started, other than the “dollz&
PE - Resource Round UpOne very important aspect of dolling is resources! Half of dolling is resources itself - the base. However, we won't focus on bases in this article. Instead, here's a big variety of tutorials and resources for dollers to learn from. Everyone's technique is different, and every style is unique. But many people are happy to offer their help and show people how they get that certain effect! Whenever you're struggling to get something just right, these tutorials can be a life-saver. Also if you're starting out, they can show you some very helpful techniques that can get you going in the right direction!

When and why did you join the deviantArt community?
I joined deviantArt 3 years ago because I wanted to share my art with this community as well as meeting artists with the same interests as mine.
Do you have some sort of Art Education?
No, I am completely self taught; I've never had any art courses, and I am quite glad because of that.
