Firstly, it's hard to believe that this newsletter has been going for a year now! Huge thanks go to all those who regularly contribute their bits and pieces to make it a great edition each time its released. Additionally thank you so much for the feedback last week on the journal skin! Now, onto some Photography bits and pieces... There has been a lot of talk and much rejoicing from many across the community lately as more and more people find themselves publishing books, or co-publishing boo

Recently I started a forum post asking members of the community where they began with Photography. Specifically I asked what your first camera was and what provoked an interest in the hobby. Because for nearly everybody that's exactly how it begins. The response was incredible, however one reply in particular touched me. JaredWingate (https://www.deviantart.com/jaredwingate) permitted me to share so here we go...

Copyright Expert
In the news this week there has been a spotlight on Karren Brady, a photographer who has won a copyright ruling. The news article itself is interesting but the cautions that it turfs up for the future and current generations of photographers are slightly more concerning. The general feeling that has started to develop is that if you have assistance with setting up a shot, making a scene, posing a model and making up a person for example, those people may well have rights to your work. This is also being d

This week the general thoughts come from Tahog (https://www.deviantart.com/tahog) who brought up the topic of Too many cameras around?! It's one that baffles many from amateur to professional in deciding what we, as artists, want to use as our tools. Hopefully one of our community volunteers will cover that in greater depth next week in an article all about choosing your next or even first camera. But for now the confusion comes when you're lining up to take a shot and somebody next to you with a mobile/cell phone is taking the same one and truth be told - it might ev

“Creative slump - the Photographers equivalent of drought."
Every so often (and for many of us it feels like everyday sometimes!) we fall into a creative slump. It's not a place that the bubbliest most inspiring of people can rise us from. It's a horrible place, where you feel like you'll never be able to recoup that creativity again. But then something changes and you climb back out, you keep drawing, or fractal-ing or taking photographs and you're happy again.
It's funny how when we're creatively over flowing and positively genius's we rarely look back and remember the time when w

The Photography Galleries: Why and How to Suggest
So many of my watchers and other members of the community suggest fantastic pieces for Daily Deviations every week. But I need more. I need to be more specific about my rules now too, so that you understand what I do and do not look for. But above all that, it's time to get You more exposure. Think you have an awesome photograph in your gallery? Why not consider self suggesting right now. I actively encourage it. If you send me your own work I will greet you with pompoms and latex free balloons. Srsly. Read on for more info:

From January 8th to APPROXIMATELY January 15th, I will not be available.
That being said, I am going in (finally) for surgery on the 9th. I prep the 8th, and I will be recouping from the 9th until, let's say if all goes well, the 15th.
You do not have to stop sending me daily deviation suggestions, but please be warned that a reply will be late in coming.
I am going to do my best to stay in bed and stay away from the internet for those days - I don't know how well I will succeed but I am going to try very hard.
Again, you don't have to stop sending suggestions, but I will be setting my choices up until the 15th this evening, and after tha
